This was our first stay at The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island, and unfortunately, it did not live up to its 5-star and 5-diamond rating. The hotel feels dated, and our experience was riddled with issues. Our original room had a strong moldy, musty smell, and we could hear water leaking from the air conditioning. When we called for service, someone came, sprayed something in the room, and told us it was fine. The smell remained unbearable, and we had to insist on changing rooms. We were finally moved to a different room close to midnight, but no apology or upgrade was offered, which was disappointing. To add to the frustration, a few days later, we were woken up by a loud siren, instructing us to leave our rooms and go to the lobby due to a nearby tornado. While this was understandable for safety reasons, the same disruption occurred again about an hour later with no apparent cause, testing our patience further and depriving us from sleep. Overall, the quality of service and accommodations fell far short of what we expected for the price. For the amount of money spent, we did not feel the experience was worth it, and I cannot recommend this hotel based on our stay.

Kiawah is beautiful and has nice amenities. That said, our specific villa could use an update. Things needed attention ( plumbing, piece of baseboard coming off, etc)... there was a leak in one of the bathrooms that I think they need to address. I think our "fix" was temporary. Had dinner at Jasmine Porch, which was a lovely space but my dinner was "meh" and lacking flavor for the prices they ask. Server started off very attentive then forgot about us (disappeared for a long, long while, forgot my dessert). Pools and beach are nice. Perhaps we'll try a different villa if I return as some appear to be newer/nicer than others.

Stayed in a 4 bedroom villa. It was unkept and dirty. Multiple appliance issues. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. I would not recommend staying off site from the Sanctuary Hotel.

I stayed here for a work event and needed to extend my stay due to hurricane Milton. I asked them to allow me to stay in the same room and they denied my request nor did they allow me to check out later, nor did they allow me to check in earlier. This is unacceptable. Also their villas need major repair. The villa was not properly cleaned nor did the dryer work and many of the closet doors work or bathroom doors closed properly. Very disappointed in their lack of cooperation, upkeep of the villa or timeliness of shuttles. I would suggest staying at a different resort than this. Very unfortunate.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience because I’m very upset and angry. My name is Sanguk Pak, and I stayed in unit #5510 for two nights from October 24 to 26. The room with the king-size bed where my parents slept was fine. However, the two single beds in the bedroom used by my girlfriend and me were absolutely terrible. There was dog poop on the floor, and the bed I used had broken springs, making it unbearable to sleep on. As a result, my girlfriend and I had to sleep on the couch in the living room for two nights. What angers me the most is that my parents, my girlfriend, and I all developed allergic reactions with itching on our skin. My parents quickly recovered after taking medication, but my girlfriend had to make a dermatologist appointment. After not seeing my parents for eight years and traveling to Kiawah Island resort , our sleeping conditions were truly awful.
